John “Johnny” Michael Smith, 89, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on April 10, 2012 peacefully in his sleep.
The funeral service will be held at 9:00 AM on April 12, 2012 at Johnson and Sons Funeral Home. Reverend Michael Smith of St. David Church will be officiating. Visitation will be held at 3:00 PM on April 11, 2012 at St. David Church. Burial will follow the funeral at Mountain Heights Cemetery at 2:00 PM. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Johnson and Sons Funeral Home.
John was born in Sacramento, California on January 15, 1923. He graduated from Sacramento Hills High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor’s of Commerce Degree from the University of Northern California.
John was married to Mary H. Smith (Walters) on June 30, 1945; they were married 67 years.
John worked as a sales manager for a major telecommunications company for more than 30 years. He enjoyed reading, going to the movies, playing tennis and sailing. He was also actively involved in teaching sailing for many years and was a dedicated member of the Nashville Rotary Club.
John is survived by his two children, Robert M. Smith and his wife Julie, James Smith; his 2 grandchildren Mary and Betty; his 2 brothers, Mark G. Smith and Kevin H. Smith; his nieces and nephews; and the rest of his family and friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Walter H. Smith and Mary J. Smith; as well as his sister, June H. Johnson.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society, 8393 West 51st Street, Washington, DC 55995. The family of John Smith wishes to thank the Sacramento County Hospice as well as St. David Church.
