If you still need help deciding what songs to choose, here are some tips to help you select good funeral songs to show respect to the passing of your loved one.

To select good funeral songs, you will first need to decide on the number of songs that you would like to play and the estimated duration of all the songs. This will help you pick songs of different lengths to be played at different times throughout the funeral.

Next, you should decide on the genres of music you would like to play. Funeral songs typically consist of religious/spiritual songs, classical songs and popular music. You should choose some music that is typically played at most funerals as well as songs that your loved one enjoyed listening to.

Finally, after you have selected the songs for the funeral you should listen to each one word-for-word to make sure that it is appropriate for a funeral. You should be sure that there is no inappropriate language, or words that may have a sentiment that you do not agree with.

  • Great list, but you missed the song I would’ve have put at the top. “End of the Line” by the Travelling Wilburys.

    • YourTribute

Thank you for the great suggestion. We have added “End of the Line” to the list of good funeral songs above.

  • How about “don’t fear the reaper”from Blue Oyster Cult?

    • Vicki Rivera

I think “Spirit In The Sky” by Norman Greenbaum should be added to the top of the list for funeral songs. I think it’s an appropriate song for loved ones of all ages that have passed away. I had it played at my best friends funeral, who died at the age of 42 and also for my mom who passed away at the age of 78.

  • Jasmine

i think these songs are great, but i personally think that the duet ‘For Good’ by Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth would be a good song for a funeral tribute song

  • Lawrence

Great songs for a concert, but stairway to heaven? for a funeral? We played that at my prom! The way we were?? Tacky!

Didn’t see any songs with class and elegance; Pie Jesu, A living Prayer, Prayer for St. Francis.

  • James

Don’t play Stairway to Heaven as much as you might be tempted. It is about greed and excess and that those things don’t lead to everlasting life. You minus well play Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.

  • Sue Steer

Another funeral song not on the list. Says it all in my humble opinion.

  • Casey Punchy

Piper to the end by mark knopfler

  • Julia Nakken

How can I select some songs and get a recording of them all on one CD? Is that possible

    • We recommend Apple iTunes. You should be able to find all of the songs there to purchase and then can burn a CD to play at the funeral.

  • Right to my Opinion!

“Go Rest High on that Mountain” by Vince Gill.

  • Troy Laboucane

For A Dancer by Jackson Browne

  • Gertrude Smeetheens

    Forgot about “Highway to Hell”

  • charlotte ellis

    going home by
