Writing a funeral speech is not easy and most people do not know how to begin and end it. A sample eulogy for a grandfather is helpful for learning how to write a beautiful tribute to your grandfather.
By making the eulogy as personal as possible and focusing on fond memories with your grandfather you will help ease the pain of losing your loved one. Do not emphasize the fact that he is gone; instead, speak about the attributes that made him a good person when he was alive. By focusing on the positives everyone in attendance will bid a final good bye to your grandfather with a full heart and smile.
When writing the eulogy think about times spent visiting the home of your grandparents. Write about the things that your grandfather taught or did that became such a special memory in your mind. It can be something funny or contain bits of serious conversation from the past. It can be about times when you were very young or when you were older with a family of your own.
Write about your grandfather’s interests and attributes that made him special. It could be his favorite song, TV show, sport, meal, hobby or anything else that makes the grandparent such a remarkable and unforgettable character.
If your grandfather was religious, it would be all right to include one or two religious verses in the speech. Or, if he wasn’t religious, he may have had some favorite sayings or quotes that you may want to include in the eulogy.
Other people may also add valuable content to the speech by sharing their own memories on the character of the grandparent. It would be helpful to call friends and family members and interview them to find out more stories and information about your grandfather.
A good outline of the speech may include a short introduction, personal experiences, experiences of others with the grandparent, favorite quotations, favorite things, and a lively conclusion that would dwell on how important the grandparent was, how that person has influenced others, and how much that person would be missed by everyone. Sample Eulogy For A Grandfather:
I would like to say a few words about my grandfather and what made him so special to me. For those here that do not know me, I am Johnny and I am one of Harry’s grandsons.
When I was young, I used to think of my grandfather as a hero. He always had this uncanny ability in knowing when his help was needed, and he would show up on those occasions. He was there when I was about to fall from a tree. He was there when I got scared because of a sudden power outage and I couldn’t sleep. He always seemed to have an answer to every question I had. He was big and strong but gentle in many ways and funny, too, and I wanted to be just like him.
As I got older I learned more about my grandfather’s past and respected him even more. He had a very difficult childhood and was lucky to survive the war. After the war he had very little money, but through hard work he was able to save up enough money to start his own business. He then met my grandmother and started a family. He turned his business into a success and had an incredible family.
He always showed me how important it was to be honest, hardworking and to be there when needed. He emphasized the value of family and was a perfect example of how to act as a husband, father and grandfather.
I am happy that I was able to get to know my grandfather so well and spend so much time with him; not everyone is so lucky. I will cherish all of the time we spent together and will always remember everything he taught me. I will miss my grandfather forever.
