Writing a eulogy for a father can help relieve the grief and make it easier to accept the situation. Reading a sample eulogy for a father is a good starting point and can make the task of writing the eulogy easier. This responsibility of being given the task to write a poignant piece for the dearly departed is an important role. That is why the eldest son or daughter would often take the role of writing the eulogy. However, for some families, the one who is tasked to deliver this speech may be anyone in the family or a close friend.
Since the bereavement time is filled with the sadness of having lost one’s dad, it is understandable that one would be at a loss of words even if your heart is bursting to pour out all the emotions and put them into words. To make it easier, basing one’s speech on a sample eulogy for a father can help you learn how to detail in a eulogy one’s experiences with one’s dad – be it sad, humorous, inspirational or enlightening.
Experiences may involve the fun-filled trips and vacations shared with the dad: having a picnic, fishing, swimming, playing one’s favorite sports, and more. It can also be about special moments where advice was given by dad during times when they were needed the most. It can be something really humorous when the person delivering the eulogy and the dad had spent a good time laughing their hearts out in delight. Or, it can be silent and serious moments spent with dad.
A good eulogy can also be about noticing little things like how your dad lovingly speaks of your mom or how dad shows affection to his children. It can also be about extended families and seeing the dad enjoy caring for nieces, nephews and grandchildren. It can be about how his values are introduced through his actions and how he touched and warmed his friends and families hearts.
Sample Eulogy For A Father:
Thank you to everyone for being here today to pay tribute to my father. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Jonathan and I am Paul’s eldest son.
My father was an intelligent, hardworking, thoughtful and compassionate. A lot of people often thought of him as being quiet and serious. But he wasn’t always that way. He put on a serious face often, but that was because he was always giving 100% on every task he took. He did have a very humorous side that his closest family and friends would get to see. He could lighten up any room with his silly but engaging jokes and loud belly laughs.
Everyone who knew him adorned his caring and compassionate attitude towards life; and my brothers and I tried to emulate it when we were growing up. I remember when we were young he would always play games with us after work even though he worked so hard during the day and was often tired. He also loved to spend time with his family on the weekends. I always looked forward to the weekend because we would do something special like go fishing, camping, play sports, go to the beach, and so on.
No matter what the situation my father always took a positive attitude and was a role model. He would always say that family and friends are the most important things in life and should take priority. This is one of the most important values that he taught us and will remain in our minds. I will miss my dad dearly, but his memory will always remain on in my heart.
