Sample Eulogies For Dad
Eulogy 1 (To dad from son):
I would like to say a few words about my dad. My dad was my biggest hero and he taught me a lot about life. He was my mentor, my teacher, my friend and my dad.
My dad was born in a small town in Oregon. Is father worked in a local mill and his mom stayed home and raised the eight children. My dad grew up poor and was a humble man. His childhood shaped his life. He was hardworking, determined, proud and cared a lot for his family.
My dad left home after high school and moved to Portland. He worked his entire life in construction and loved to work with his hands. It was in Portland that he met his future wife, June. They were married 40 wonderful years and raised four children, two boys and two girls.
I got my passion for the outdoors and trades from my dad. I continued on in his footsteps with a career in construction. I remember many nights as a child helping my dad in his workshop. He was always building something, either furniture for us or a friend, or doing repairs around the house. He was always willing to help friends and family with their construction projects.
My hero has passed on and my dad leaves my brothers and I to carry on his legacy. We are very proud of everything he accomplished and what he taught us. Dad, we will miss you every day and will never forget you.
Eulogy 2 (To dad from daughter):
I would like to begin by thanking everyone for attending today; I know that many of you travelled long distances to be here. My name is Julie and I am Mark’s eldest daughter.
My dad was one of the greatest dad’s that a girl could have asked for. He was hard working, generous, caring and honest. He was always there to help if you needed him. Whether you simply needed to talk, or needed help with a project, he was always willing to help.
My dad was a very intelligent man. He studied business at UCLA and went on to het his MBA from Duke University. After university he moved to New York and work as a VP at a major investment bank. Even though he was extremely hard working and his career was very important to him he never neglected his family. He always took a lot of holiday time and we went on at least two family holidays per year. I will never forget our annual Christmas holidays to Florida. We always rented the same house and often invited other relatives on our holiday. It was a great chance for us all to spend uninterrupted time together.
My dad also loved boating and taught me to sail at a young age. We loved to get out on the water whenever we could. It was one of my favorite things to do with my dad and made us very close. He was also an excellent swimmer and competed nationally at University. He passed this passion on to me and that is why I am working so hard at training for the olympics.
Towards the end of my dad’s life it was very difficult for our family to watch him struggle with cancer. Even though he was fighting such a difficult battle he always remained strong and was optimistic. He showed the most concern for us and how we were doing. He did not want us to feel sorry for him. The strength that he showed and his love for us is something that I will never forget. I love you dad and will miss you very much. God bless.
